2003 Topps Total box break

Just opened a box of 2003 Topps Total that I got off eBay for about $30 plus shipping.  It's my third box and will hopefully bring me much closer to completing the set (990 cards).

The big hits were rookie cards of Ryan Howard and Chien-Ming Wang.  I'm thinking of getting both cards graded, because they look sharp and I already a copy of them for my set.

I didn't pull any autographs, leaving three remaining insert sets:
  • Total Topps (1:7) - Greg Maddux (2), Albert Pujols (2), Miguel Tejada, Mike Piazza
  • Award Winners (1:12) - Todd Helton, Manny Ramirez, Barry Bonds
  • Total Production (1:18) - Lance Berkman
Here are my quick impressions:
  • The only two doubles I pulled from the box were insert cards.
  • Based on the odds, the box was missing a Total Production insert, and yielded an extra Total Topps.  (I'd prefer the Total Production since those are tougher to pull.)
  • Each pack includes a silver-bordered parallel card, none of which were worth mentioning.
Although I haven't gotten a chance to add these cards to the set, I'm satisfied with the purchase, primarily because the Howard card is worth the price paid for the box.

It's unfortunate that Topps discontinued this product a couple years ago, because it was a real challenge to complete the set, and included enough rookies to make it a decent investment, despite the low price point.
